8 Daily Routines That Will Make You More Productive in Port Harcourt

Everyone craves success in life but the reality is that not everyone would eventually gets it. As a matter of fact, success like Brian Tracy once said, are for those with successful habits. How productive you are on a daily basis largely determines if you’d be successful or otherwise. And the habits you chose can boost your productivity beyond your imagination. These are some routines that could help increase your productivity as you gravitate towards success in life.

1. PLAN YOUR ACTIVITIES THE NIGHT BEFORE…

The most common method that helps people to be more productive is the use of to-do list. The list usually contains tasks that need to be completed with a given period, usually a day. Once you complete a task you strike it out and move to the next task. While many people make such checklist in the morning, it’s best to compile it before going to bed, as this gives you a sense of clarity in the morning. With your day planned a night before, you are able to easily work contingencies into your goals for the day.

2. ENGAGE IN LIGHT EXERCISE IN THE MORNING…

“Exercise frequently” has become a cliche, no doubt. That’s probably one of the easiest piece of advice to give when it comes to staying healthy. However, this idea of exercising frequently isn’t a culture yet in Nigeria. That being said, to stay sharp mentally and physically, you could try two easy things:

  •  Do simple exercises like jumping jacks, bear crawls, chair dips etc for 10 minutes in the morning.
  • Through the day, climb stairs, take a walk to get lunch, stroll up and down the street where your office is located when you can and engage in other activities that keep your body moving.

3. MAKE BREAKFAST COMPULSORY…

Since the last time you ate dinner and the morning after waking up, your body had lived without food. Therefore, everyone should start their day off right by eating as many vitamins and other nutrients as possible. From a light breakfast, you get energy boost to start your day. Apart from that, you don’t want to be at work or in a meeting and feel hunger pangs. Once you’ve had breakfast, you are able to focus on your tasks for the day until you need to refuel at lunch.

4. PRIORITIZE YOUR TO-DO LIST WITH FROGS THAT MUST BE EATEN…

One shortcut to having daily success is to start work by “eating a frog.” To eat a frog is to take a bite of your most annoying, most difficult and most challenging task, then go on to munch it even though you don’t wish to. This is the best antidote for procrastination. Seriously, the tasks you procrastinate are the ones you find hardest to swallow, that is those that require full concentration. It’s a lot better to start your mornings with these frogs as it would make the rest of the day a lot easier.

5. AVOID MULTITASKING IF YOU COULD…

Many people tend to assume that there’s nothing as fly as being able to multitask. Yes, It can be at times but only few exceptional freaks multitask and still produce excellent results. Best bet is to not “run the race” of such people, like the saying goes in pop-culture parlance. On the contrary, learn to execute one thing at a time for efficiency. Multitasking often gives the illusion that you could accomplish a lot but the reality is that you might achieve little in the end. It could lead to drop in efficiency.

6. TAKE A POWER NAP OR TWO….

A power nap is a short sleep during the working day in order to restore one’s mental alertness. To be honest, humans are sometimes subsumed by multiple tasks that must be completed with a give timeframe. We desire to accomplish as much as we can in a single day with optimal results. However, we are no robots and cannot cheat nature no matter how hard we try. But truth is a lot of people cannot afford the required amount of sleep hours to stay healthy. Therefore, it is instructive to take between 10-20 minutes of power nap during working hours to boost one’s energy level, concentration and creativity. Here’s the best part: power nap is good alternative to taking coffee which has been said to cause memory loss over time.

7. USE ENTERTAINMENT AS REWARD FOR A DAY WELL SPENT…

Having completed all tasks on your checklist for the day, it is important that you find a way of rewarding yourself. Best time for this is in the evening. You could decide to hangout with friends for a couple of hours at a pub, unwind with a good leisure book, or watch a movie you’ve had on your system for a while. You could clear your mind off thoughts about work and spend an hour or two with the kids and spouse as well. In addition, it is best to use time spent on social media as reward for yourself at night rather merely frolicking on Twitter, Facebook and the likes during working hours. Just find anything you consider entertaining to reward yourself.

8. SPEND SOME TIME AT NIGHT TO RECAP YOUR DAY…

Finally, before going to bed, it is necessary to spend some time to recap how your day panned out. You analyze what worked for you, how you went about making key decisions and what to do to improve on them. On a bad day, you reflect on specific mistakes you made and ways through which you could do things differently. Taking time to recap the day also helps boost your self confidence and put you in a good frame of mind to deal with challenges that might come up the following day.
