Most people take their dental health for granted, they think it just ends in brushing your teeth. But there’s much more to it. Just how you take care of your skin, you should put as much effort into your dental care. The saying “You don’t know what you have until you lose it” applies to your teeth too. You will not know how important your teeth is until you start having sensitive teeth or a hole in your tooth. Teeth or gum disease are some of the most frustrating things ever, the pain is excruciating, you can’t eat or talk well too.
So do not wait till your tooth has to be pulled out till you start trying to maintain it. This post gives us some of the basic techniques we can employ to take care of your teeth.
Growing up we were all advised to brush our teeth daily, we sang about it and all. That’s to show you how important it is to brush. Dentists advice we brush at least two times a day. And at most, it’s best to brush 2 or 3 minutes after a meal.Brushing prevents Plaques; accumulation of biofilm or bacteria on the teeth. And plaques lead to Cavity; soft area in a decayed tooth.
Brush with a Fluoride paste in circular motion focusing in each tooth. Always choose a soft toothbrush over a hard one because the hard ones could hurt your gum which would lead to bleeding. And replace your toothbrush every 3 to 4 months.
Floss your teeth regularly
A lot of people don’t do this, some don’t even know what flossing is. Flossing basically is using a thread to clean the area between your teeth. And this gets rid of food stuck between your teeth, the floss cleans those hidden places your toothbrush couldn’t reach. The special threads used for this are called floss.
You should floss once daily. It also prevents plaques.
Rinse your mouth
Not just with water, rinse with an antiseptic mouthwash or a fluoride wash. Some people even use both. You can rinse your mouth before or after brushing and it helps prevent against gum disease and other teeth problems.
Make sure you eat a balanced diet regularly, calcium is really good for your teeth too. Minimize surgary and starchy food, these foods produce the most acids and the longer they stay in the mouth the longer they cause damages.
Smoking increases risk of gum diseases and it’s also the number one cause of teeth yellowing.
Visit your Dentist regularly
We all take this for granted too, a lot of us don’t even know the road to any Dentist office.
You should get a professional cleaning and check up once every 6 months. And ensure every pain, bleeding or swollen gum gets checked out by a good dentists.
