6 Natural And Really Simple Ways To Whiten Your Teeth

Other than healthy hair, beautiful skin and flawless face, the other things we crave to have is healthy white teeth. We all want to be able to give that million dollar smile. The teeth are one of the first things people notice about you and it’s good to know that quite having yellow teeth or an ‘it-was-white’ teeth is not necessarily that you do not take proper care of your teeth – like forgetting to brush daily; smoking, coffee, sugary and starchy food, soda and dark beverages are also teeth darkening agents.

Apart from going to the dentist to get your teeth whitened (I heard that once you get this done, you’ll always have to do it because the teeth would get yellower, I don’t know how true this is though) there are also teeth whitening toothpaste, (people say mixing two different types of this paste would give a better result than using one) and then we have DIY teeth whitening paste made from natural and household items.

  1. Orange/Lemon Peels

As unlikely as it seems people claim this produces excellent result. And it’s really easy. Just peel an orange or lemon and rub the insides (white part) on the teeth before brushing.

  1. Hydrogen peroxide and Baking Soda

Mix 2 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide with 1 tablespoon of baking soda and stir into a paste. This paste should be running and not stiff.

Apply this paste on your teeth and let it sit about 1 minute and then rinse thoroughly. This should be used 2 to 3 times in a week because the excessive use of Baking soda could do more harm than Good, breaks down enamel and causes sensitivity of the teeth.

  1. Baking Soda and lemon juice

Lemon has bleaching effects already and mixed with baking soda can be very potent and safe because lemon is acidic and baking soda is an alkaline, it would balance the Ph level, reducing the acidity of the lemon.

Mix several teaspoons of baking soda with freshly squeezed lemon or water alternatively and apply the paste on the teeth, leave it for 1 minute if the paste is with lemon juice and 3 minutes if it’s just water. Don’t forget to rinse thoroughly.

  1. Apple Cider Vinegar

It works as a mouth gum cleaner; it also removes stubborn stains on the teeth caused by coffee and nicotine. Although this wouldn’t work instantly, consistent use will give you a professional look.

You can use it as a mild mouth rinse along with your daily oral care. You can also gargle it. Another way to use this it to mix 2 part apple cider vinegar and 1 part baking soda paste and brush with it. Make sure you brush again with a non-Fluoride paste or rinse thoroughly.

  1. Coconut oil

It has stain decreasing properties and also promotes gum health.

Coconut oil prevents plaque causing bacteria which would cause yellow teeth. There are a few ways to use this; coconut oil and peppermint leaf: blend the leaf and add to the coconut oil, the leaf adds a minty flavour, brush with the mixture.

You could just use a spoonful of oil and swish between the teeth for 5 to 20 minutes or add a few drops in a toothpaste. You can also put some on a clean cloth and rub it on the teeth. Unlike the baking soda, this treatment can be used daily, the result isn’t instant but people say it works.

  1. Strawberry

Crazy how a delicious fruit would also be a teeth whitener, huh?

Mash about 4 to 5 strawberries and rub all over your teeth. Another recipe is to mash a big strawberry, add a pinch of salt and half a teaspoon of baking soda. Brush with the mixture and let it sit for 5 minutes and then rinse. This should be done nightly.

If you take care of your teeth you probably wouldn’t need to whiten it, so avoid smoking, coffee and soda. Dark beverages should be taken with a straw. Don’t forget to brush after every meal if possible and if not at least twice a day. Floss too and drink water or milk after eating.

To all those craving for a whiter teeth, it wouldn’t hurt to try any remedy listed above, they aren’t dangerous to your health so you have nothing to fear. Have patience too, and ensure you use it correctly.

Cheers to healthy white dentition.
