As humans, especially when we are young, we think about ourselves a lot, I mean A LOT. So even though you may be thinking about your hair and your clothes and how you sound and that dumb thing you said yesterday, nobody else is.
So don’t worry what others think of you.

That said, if you really care what Joe thinks, then there’s a simple test: pay attention to what Joe says about Jane behind Jane’s back. If he says one thing to her face and something different behind her back then you can be pretty sure that Joe will say something else behind your back too. In that case, find another friend. Life is far far too short for frenemies.
