A report reaching us this evening says earlier today, Sunday, November 08, 2015, a soldier of the Nigerian Army shot dead a commercial driver plying the Mile 3-Rumuokoro road. The incident is reported to have occurred close to the Rumuokoro junction – FGC Port Harcourt area.

“The bus driver was driving one-way [that is on the wrong side of the road] when he encountered soldiers stationed outside the Military Camp opposite the FGC,” an eye-witness said. According to the eye-witness, the soldiers asked the driver to stop, but he refused; and instead attempted to speed-drive away in order to evade arrest. In his attempt to escape, he knocked down one of the soldiers.

“That inflamed the soldiers who in the attempt to prevent the bus driver from escaping shot at his tires. As the driver continued to drive away with burst tires, one of the soldiers aimed at him, and shot him dead.”

It is reported that the bus driver died on the spot.

That’s all we know so far.

We will bring you more details, as we are still asking questions to ascertain what really may have transpired.
